Recently while sorting through papers and notebooks I found poems I had written years ago. Johnny's World is one of those poems. I had put it aside because I thought that the last four lines needed to rhyme like the rest of the poem and I couldn't come up with a good rhyming ending. The last few lines don't rhyme but I like the way it ends.

Johnny's World

Johnny's world is a mystical magical place.
It's a place where people are always good; never bad.
People are always happy; never sad.
It's a place where flowers always bloom and birds sing.
And simple things have magical powers; like a found washer ring.
Johnny's world is a place where is found the Wisdom of the AGES.
And waiting there to be filled is life's blank pages.
Johnny's world is filled not with hate;
but with an abundance of LOVE.
His world is not unique; for all have had such a place.
And if we search we can find it again.
For it is hidden in our heart; in a special place.

This poem was written after my son took a picture taken at the carnival to school. Rereading the poem brings back fond memories. And unlike other carnival souvenirs that picture is still around.

A Souvenir

"Mom, please, oh please can we get our picture taken as a souvenir of The Carnival!" his childish voice asks.
My hair is a mess and his is too; as we have been twirled, twisted, suspended upside down by the rides.
Yet, how can I deny such a simple request..."A picture Mom, a souvenir of The Carnival."
The photographer snaps the picture; as filled with the excitement of the day we laugh.
The next day my son takes the picture to school and places it on his desk.
For my son, a souvenir of a happy day.
A souvenir from The Carnival.

For My Son

It seems like just yesterday you were small.
Now look at you; you have grown so tall.
There is so much more now that you know.
I take great pride in watching you grow.
Before too long I know you will be a man.
So, I will try to teach you the skills you need the best I can.
I will give to you all I have to give.
And no matter what you do I will LOVE you for as long as I live.
