COLOR POEMS

A book I read suggested writing a poem on a color. It surprised me what I found myself writing as I wrote about a color. For instance I had forgot about the dress with the red trim until I started writing about red. Now I clearly see that dress as I reread that sentence.

I'm sure none of these poems would ever win a contest but they were fun to write. And for me having fun with words and even discovering myself more through stringing my words together is what poetry writing is all about.

BLUE

I like the color blue.
The blue of the vast sky calms my anxious spirit
Blue walls painted by the reflecting light of a police car outside; fascinates me.
Blue is a color I lose myself in.
Especially when I look into the sapphire blue of my son's eyes.

PURPLE

I am not waiting until I grow old to wear purple.
Wearing purple makes me feel confident and even bold.
No, I see no reason to wait to wear purple until I am old.
For it is now that I need to feel confident and bold
.

RED

When I was young my dad would buy me red socks to wear.
When I was five, maybe six he bought me at the store a blue dress with red trim.
That silky dress became my favorite dress.
Red became my favorite color.

GREEN

Green is the color of the grass.
My favorite dress is green.

I still in my memory see the sparkling green of my Mother's eyes.

Sometimes I wish I could be all green like a stringbean.

WHITE

White quietly whispers.
Reminding me of the sheer white veil I wore whispering in my ear.

White not a bold color.
Shy like I was on my wedding day.
White a color that does not clash.
When combined with white all colors look right.
You and I are right when combined by love and the color white.
