I was introduced to Abantu poetry when I read the book "Writing Personal Poetry: Creating Poems From Your Life Experiences" written by Sheila Bender.

What used to be called the African Bantu tribe developed an oral tradition where they would compare one thing to something else that is different in two line poems. One person would speak an image line and another person would answer.

You may find it fun to make up a line in the morning and then later in the day an answering line. Or to have friends make up a line and you answer the line and vice-versa.

Here are a few poems I came up with:

Birds singing in the morning
Students greeting the teacher good morning

Stars in the sky
A jar of glitter

A bird singing
A girl after her lover's first kiss

The full moon
A frisbee

Fluffy white clouds
A wedding dress

A dog chasing his tail
A ceiling fan

Please email me for permission to use these poems. Thank you!
